Citi: waived on multiple cards for 12 years now. More recently the requests are automated via IVR without the need for asking a human for a waiver.
Amex: have usually waived but in the last 2 years started offering "spend $2K in 3 months and we'll waive". I only hold the Rewards card now so can't speak for the last 12 months.
UOB: waived annual fee for Preferred Plat Visa for about 7 years now on asking.
DBS: had a card years ago that they refused to waive, so I cancelled. Didn't get another card till the Altitude Visa this year.
Stanchart: Just did one this week - online request for waiver was denied, called in and waiver was approved.
Thanks for the info - I noticed that DBS is very open about their threshold for automatic fee waiver (UOB Privi card also lists this info) whereas the others seem to skip this part. Does that mean that they still do so automatically for some people or does everyone need to make the effort to call in and request it?
Also, do you wait until the renewal charge shows up in your statement before calling up for a waiver or is it better/possible to do so in advance?
