I'm strict vegetarian, so I don't get excited about food (for the most part); I don't drink; I have no sophisticated appreciation for art or architecture; history leaves me cold. I travel for modern culture, to meet people, to converse. What better way than over a haircut (and shave).
I've probably had haircuts in 100 countries, Tajikistan, Yemen, Oman, Sudan, Somalia, Paraguay, The Gambia, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Iceland, Greenland, Cambodia...
Haircuts are a near-universal phenomemon - a common human experience over which we can all bond. I'll be sad when I run out of hair.
This is funny, I love food, history and am not a teetotaler but I too get a haircuts in almost every country I travel to. It's something I have to do anyway but figure I can get the local version of it. (Plus unlike a physical souvenir I don't have to find a place for it at home.)
Singapore-12
Cuenca, Ecuador- Shave and haircut 5
Jo-berg- 8
Shanghai- 6 (super chinese haircut)
Kandy, Sri Lanka- 3
Moscow - 11 (language barrier meant an unusual haircut)
Swindon, England- 18 (language barrier meant an unusual haircut)

Bangkok- Shave and haircut 4
Italy - 20 (meh)
Istanbul - Shave and haircut 9 (rough shave)
Bucharest 40 (my local friend insisted on going to a "fancy" place)
Stockholm 35 (not fancy, just scandinavian prices)
Bali -6
I think I have had my hair cut in about 80 countries.
And Mules is right, they often make you look like a local.
