I'm guessing it depends heavily upon the head of hair in question. For my own simple dome trim, anything more than about 12 bucks is too much. Any decent barber with a standard clipper set should have me in and out in 10-15 minutes tops. Shop ambiance is lost on me.

Sipping a cold beer during the haircut? OK, I'd certainly enjoy that - I had a barber once that would pour you two fingers of Old Smuggler if you felt like you didn't have enough hair on your chest already. But I wouldn't pay much for it.

That said, if I had complicated plumage that required a lot of time from an experience professional, I could see investing a little more money in a good salon.
