And how does KLM World Business on 747-400 compare to AF business (Affaires) 777-200? It seems that neither has a lie-flat seat, but the fare is about $1500 less than UAL C / LH C, which is something I need to consider.

AF or KL sites can be used for seat selection on both airlines (whatever you are booked on AF or KL you can use one or the other site to select seats or to change your selection). When one site is buggy, we often go on the other site
On the 747, I believe KL still has an older version of the seat than AF 772. All AF772 have the last version (called NEV4 on this forum). It's slightly angled, but I have personally no pb to sleep in. "Old" KL seat is not so good but is wayyy better than Y sardine can, or even AF PV.
