If you have an android smartphone with NFC, you could try reading your passport chip. You can do it with an app called "Tag info".

However, if the phone cannot detect your RFID chip, it still does not mean it is faulty as the RF energy required to power up the chip might be larger that what the phone can provide. My US passport has a functioning chip, but my phone cannot detect it at all whilst it can read my wife's passport chip without a problem.
