How many of you have *asked* Amex for free FX options? If they have enough requests, maybe something will change.

I could also see an upselling potential there: Buy extra travel insurance from Amex Insurance and the trip comes with free/cheaper FX (up to the value of the insurance premium). And with the annual 31 day multi-trip insurance we'd have free FX all year long for at least the first $4400. :-) Not massive, but it would be a start. Then again, such and offer would make the fee more prominent, and Amex probably doesn't want customers to be aware of this fee.
