the GC T&Cs are pretty clear.....should you try to use a GC at a non-psrticpating prop or use the card outside its limitations (ie. I tried to pay for parking at the Milan Marriott which was denied as its not owned by the property; I've seen others report that they can't use a GC to purchase a GC at the prop and/or pay for any 3rd party services)............

T&Cs: Marriott GiftCards may be used at participating JW Marriott® , EDITION®, Autograph Collection® Hotels, Renaissance® Hotels, AC Hotels by Marriott (SM), Marriott Hotels & Resorts®, Courtyard®, SpringHill Suites®, Fairfield Inn & Suites®, Residence Inn®, TownePlace Suites®, Gaylord Hotels® and Marriott Vacation Club® and participating hotel outlets: retail, spa, golf and food and beverage. Card carries no value until activated. Card is a prepaid card, not a credit card or debit card, and is the property of and issued by MI Fulfillment Services, LLC.........

unfortunately, as reported by Nacho, myself and others, we're not being informed of these non-participating props and/or outlets until we try to pay their respective charges (and likewise are being denied MR points associated w these non-particpating outlet charges whether by GC, CC or cash)...........

Very important for me to include in the OP if they exist.

Innkeeper laws not only vary by state, but by country as well. Next time you're in (say) Russia and they won't accept your GC try walking out the door (before and/or after you're arrested)!!!!!!!! See how far you get complaining to the local fuzz and/or the US Consulate (who couldn't give a damn) after your passport is held until cash payment is made..........
And, by the way, unless the individual prop you're walking from is one of the few actually owned by Marriott you would not be defrauding Marriott but the actual owners of the prop.............

That's precisely why procedure requires that you've already authorized payment before you begin your stay; it's not like you can walk out without paying, as a shoplifter could do in a retail store. The most extreme claim they could make is that they need to charge the CC instead of GC, but that's unrelated to fraud. Of course, it's possible that corrupt or inept lawmen and employees could conspire, but if this happened just once, as Marriott employees are agents of the company, it would cause a massive hit to Marriott's reputation, and we'd know about it. The police department would be subject to prosecution and damages, officers would be fired, and person who was arrested on false pretenses would have quite the award coming their way.
