Ah, okay, so it is as I thought. If a guest presented a GC for payment, in those K states, or anywhere for that matter, and the FD clerk either did not know how, or did not wish to be bothered to accept a GC for payment, saying "I'm sorry Mr/s. Guest, but cash or credit/bank debit card only."

If that guest then said, "That is too bad, I have offered valid payment, and you have refused, so I will be leaving now, have a nice day."

If the response of the FD clerk was not to consider that it would be a massive PR disaster for Marriott, but did consider that calling the local constabulary and accusing that guest of 'defrauding an innkeeper' was an appropriate response.

If the local cop or sheriff then showed up and did arrest Mr/s. Guest for defrauding an innkeeper, why do you think that the local cop or sheriff would not hold Mr/s. Guest if the FD clerk said that the GC was not acceptable payment?

Yes, I do agree that Mr/s. Guest would eventually be released, with the charges dropped, but if it was a weekend, that guest might spend a night or two in the pokey.
