Easter Island: JFK-{AA}-MIA-{LA}-SCL-{LA}-IPC in Biz

Got in on this deal: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milea...6-8-cpm-j.html

Departure – Terminal 8 at JFK
Private American check-in area for business and first class had no line and I quickly received boarding passes for all three flights. Short walk to security and breezed through in seconds using the TSE Pre-Check line. Another short walk to the Admirals Club. Lounge was spacious, ample seating (only 30% seats occupied). First “premium” drink was free, I had a Rodney Strong pinot noir that was very good. Nice full pour, thank you very much. Free snacks are limited to pretzels and cookies, although a number of sandwiches and salads are available for purchase, most are $10-12.

.
Sat in 3L, second row window. First impressions were tight seating but very comfortable.

.
Pre-departure beverage was only choice of water or orange juice. About 20 min after takeoff, offered drink of choice (I had an acceptable 2011 cabernet) and large ramekin of warm mixed nuts.

.
Refills provided without asking. About 20 minutes later, offered cold beef wrap or my choice, buffalo chicken salad. Nice large portion.

.
After finishing meal, warm cookie was offered.

.
Only disappointment was no personal entertainment system – only had something playing on the overhead screen that was hard to see from my seat. I laid nearly flat for about 30 minutes and found it quite comfortable, although slightly inferior to UA’s or DL’s flat-bed seats.

Arrived in MIA and went to the Admirals Club near gate A15, which was upstairs. Entrance was akin to TSA security check (employees at podiums checking credentials), outside the lounge. Cleared and went inside lounge and was disappointed. It was loud, crowded, seats were soiled, etc. Left after 10 minutes. Walked 20+ minutes to J terminal, had to go through security again. Waited in line 5 minutes to enter “Club America J” lounge. Better than the previous lounge but pretty crowded and very loud. Variety of free drinks available, served by a bartender, plus a few light snacks (finger sandwiches and cookies).

I couldn't find much info on the seats, other than what was on LAN's website. Nice distance between rows but seat was quite narrow, firm, and lacked privacy (photos later). In full recline mode, had a small slant and I just barely fit (I’m 6’). Excellent quality pillow and duvet, and nice Salvatore Ferragamo travel kit although I didn’t care for the eye shades. Pre-departure beverage of choice offered with a few nuts. I had champagne, very good.

After takeoff, choice of 3 red and 2 white wines (among other options).

Choice of soup or appetizer that came with a small spinach and pear salad, bread, and cheese; choice of entrees, and choice of ice cream, cheesecake, or fruit.

Service was professional. IFE was a bit slow but had very good selection of movies and TV episodes. After dinner, FA asked if we wanted to be awakened for breakfast, and if so, if wanted a snack or what I chose, full breakfast. About one hour before landing, given option of omelet or ham and cheese sandwich. I chose the eggs, which were scrambled and a bit dry, and came with sautéed mushrooms, small fruit bowl, and croissant.

Coffee was in a large mug but was only warm (I like hot coffee) and tasted like instant. During flight, I was able to step over the passenger in the aisle without difficulty.

Transiting through SCL was a bit of a pain. Paid $160 reciprocity fee then through security in about 15 minutes. Cleared through customs then had to exit the secured area, go up two floors, walk across the expansive terminal lobby, and re-enter through security for domestic departures. The domestic terminal wasn’t heated – everyone was wearing coats. No lounge access for LAN customers, but there was a Starbucks and Cinnabon as well as a few other small shops. Bought some red wine at duty free, most bottles were between 6,000 and 10,000 pesos.

I had seat 1L, a bulkhead window, on the same plane type and was able to take a few photos.

.
There was at least as much leg room as my previous seat, otherwise everything was the same. Had orange juice as pre-departure beverage. Small amenity kit handed out that included shoe bag, eye mask, ear plugs, socks, and pen, as well as a menu.

Drinks were first served, then came breakfast. This time, the omelet was indeed just that, and it tasted much better than the eggs served in the previous flight.

.
Everything tasted good and was served at a nice temperature. The flight was very good, my only complaint was that there is a lot of noise from the galley, so probably wouldn’t pick a bulkhead seat in the future. Same IFE as before -- LAN offers a travel map that's primitive but better than nothing. We landed on time and the small airport was simple and charming.

PS, This is my first trip report on FlyerTalk. Constructive suggestions or comments are welcome!
