Japanese strictly follow the rules, you can't drop off any bags til 3 hours prior to your departure.
I had once (mid 2012) checked in and sent in the baggages early morning in HND for late afternoon departure flight on JL. Maybe overnight is too much, but I don't think there was any 3 hours rule. But thanks!

OP, I suggest you leave your luggage with a left luggage service at HND if you absolutely don't want to keep it with you overnight.
I just realized there were luggage storage facilities existed in Asian airports for a reasonable price.
