I think the HVCB is over reacting. There has been too many seats added within the last year and as a result, fares had to drop to fill the seats, resulting in poor financial performance. Airlines realize this and are trimming capacity to right size the market. NOt to mention, most of these cuts are coming during the slow fall period. This is unlike the recent draw down of capacity in the Atlantic market, though for different reasons. THis isn't going to reduce the amount of visitors because of a perceived lack of seats. The same amount of visitors can access Hawaii, the flights will just be more full

Some comments on comments...

Asia carriers dominate the MORNING in HNL. By early afternoon they're mostly gone and the US carriers dominate until well into the late evening. Take a look from late morning to late afternoon. Hawaiian is clearly the dominant force in HNL with their 767s and 330s.

Hawaiian is decreasing JFK by 2/wkly flights for the fall. Probably a good move and not nearly as drastic as UA's IAD-HNL. I'd hardly count this move as a pre curser to dropping JFK entirely. The route isn't even a year old. These things take time to cultivate. Cutting capacity will allow certain fares to rise and hopefully this will prove true in JFK. The LAS and SJC cutbacks are seasonal and of little significance as the OGG-SJC 767 and 2 other daily 330s are maintained to LAS.

Much ado about nothing. IMO the HVCB needs to find a way to build more hotel rooms than complain about a tiny reduction in seasonal capacity!
