If you have a revenue ticket you can definitely go free standby between YYZ and NYC hubs. Just show up at TA or GA early and ask for standby. If they have a seat they'll confirm and reissue BP to you. Have done at both airports before. I'm pretty AP tickets are ok too but will need to confirm that.
