+1. I also commute and have made at least 300 journeys in recent years. I always either print the ticket at home or upload it to my mobile phone. No-one has ever checked the name on my ticket against my passport, carte blanche card or anything else.

In fact, if you travel standard class and check in at the ticket barrier, no-one usually looks at your ticket; it's only in the two premium classes that the class of your ticket is checked at the train door on boarding the train. On some occasions there is a ticket check before you go up/down to the platforms but they only look at the train number to check you're on the right train.

That said, I haven't tried travelling with a ticket in a name that is clearly female (which I am not); I suspect this would be picked up.
