We go down the escalator to the gate area, there's a 757 parked there, but only about 5 people sitting in the waiting area. Sensing something is not right, I go to the UC near G94 and the agent says 214 is leaving out of gate 87.
Walk over to the domestic side and all the displays there show 214 as gate 87.
Why the discrepancy?
Hmm, I think UA has realized a lot of frequent flyers fled to other airlines, and is now trying to increase the percentage of frequent flyers by chasing away the less savvy travelers who would not quadruple checked the gate by going inside a UC.
Or maybe UA oversold the flight, and is using this tactic to get people off the flight and blame it on them.
