My UK policies have always covered this, but you have to read the wording. My current UK policy (which isn't actually in effect I don't think, given I am not UK resident, but it is through my UK bank) states under the 'Travel disruption' section "Return from destination" any "Additional expenses to return home or if you have to stay longer abroad" - it covers all kinds of reasons, including airline schedule change and cancellation. The policy is underwritten by AXA.
