Most definitely wishful thinking. The turnaround time is usually 25 minutes which might seem a lot but it practice, once they all get out, do the through count, there is rarely enough time to go to the bathroom before the onslaught of incoming passengers.

They will kick you off the plane for ATC delays as I found out a few weeks ago doing MCI-MKE-LGA due to "a ground stop".

Silly me had bought a crappy tuna sandwich for dinner "airside" at MCI lest I run afoul of random TSA confiscation rules. Then I got off the plane scheduled at MKE only to see bunch of seemly wonderful restaurants and other options...
