I always have assumed that the laundry service used by hotels (and cruise ships, etc) are basically "dump in the clothes, turn on, wash, dry" in an industrial-sized W/D. I never would send my clothes, as I assume they'd come back shrunk, faded, discolored, etc.

I do on a month's vacation and take enough clothes.
