Last time I connected from C to A at EWR (about a year ago) the bus ride and waiting time combined took around 15 minutes. IMHO it's not worth the hassle--with the limited number of UA Express and JetBlue flights out of the "finger" in terminal A, you shouldn't have too much of a wait at security.
