Likely Chase required some authorization number to verify that you were actually making the purchase. It is a bit unusual for a low (all things relative!) amount, however.
See if you get a fraud alert call/message from Chase.
I got a text/and email from Chase saying that i was charged from office max for 413.9 after the purchase. it was an information text that i set up i beleive for an online/phone or mail order charge. i got the same msg when i had my cell bill taken out automatically.
i guess i was worried that chase is tracking how much i would purchase in GCs...this was a first at this location. i bought a 600 dollar GC few weeks back and they didn't call in for any verification.
