I concur regarding driving the stick. If you are not used to a stick, it will add a big element of complication to driving in mountains, as well as in chaotic city centers. The drivers are just a little crazy there in the cities.... Highways are very good.

The trains are good. Definitely get 1st class, and hope fervently that the air conditioning is working. I had a hot ride from Casa to Marrakech in April when the temps were only in the low 80s.

An option to seriously consider is hiring a car and driver. Relax and watch the scenery.
