If she uses her miles for her flight we will be on a separate record locator. If we are on 2 record locators how can I use my status to get us preferred seating?
I guess one thought was for her to get my ticket and vice versa. The platinum desk wasn't much help on this other than to pay for the miles a second time ( ie gift miles).

When on AA (cross-ref PNR's), I've never had trouble calling AA and getting my wife a preferred seat/MCE. OW is another story. I have had zero luck with AB no matter how many times I call. I have had mixed results with BA depending on the agent. I don't have experience with other OW airlines and split PNR's on award travel in Y. No trouble with AY, but it was a J award booking.
