If she uses her miles for her flight we will be on a separate record locator. If we are on 2 record locators how can I use my status to get us preferred seating?

I guess one thought was for her to get my ticket and vice versa. The platinum desk wasn't much help on this other than to pay for the miles a second time ( ie gift miles).
