To illustrate how this could pan out if it had been travel in the other direction (WAR-DXB-SIN), EK would have been liable to refund the OP ¾ of the "price of the ticket" since Poland is an EU member [EU 261/2004 section 10].
I know the EU rules, but they are irrelevent in the OP's case. I have had the same thing occur myself on a route where a 3 hour connecting flight to a 22 hour flight no longer had 1st class after originally booking and received nout; this is not peculiar to EK only. I don't agree that it is nice, but I can see their logic
