There are trips and there are trips. Some trips are "once in a lifetime" deals where, sure, you want to pad in an extra day if possible, ample connect times, some back-up cash for hotels, extra food everywhere, and so on ... so you can "stay zen," come what may.

Then there are business-related trips where you also have business or other obligations at home and you are squeezing them in because, most of the time, they are doable on a tight schedule (even if you are near the limit of what your body can take). I mean, c'mon, look at the ratio of travel time to ground time in OP's original plan.... Any more travel time might have made the ratio absurd. So stuff happened and the OP pulled the plug on the trip. Makes sense to me -- both original plan and OP's response under the circumstances.
