Missed connection: how hard will it be to collect miles?

Flight 881 from ORD on April 17 was too late arriving NRT to make BKK connection. Passengers were given tickets for the next day, and then shuttled off to a hotel for the night. Meal vouchers for dinner and breakfast were supplied. Though not what I wanted, or where I wanted to be, I give UA credit for getting this all organized and ready for the many passengers who would be impacted by this 3 hour + delay from ORD. I was particularly happy to be at the front of the line to collect my ticket and vouchers and get to the hotel to check in before a huge line would form!!! Also, kudos for keeping tabs on my checked luggage over night, and making sure I got it when I finally arrived BKK!

Now the situation: the trip to BKK the next day was on Vietnam Airlines, which is not in the star alliance. I think it should be up to United to make sure I get those FF miles and EQMs since I had nothing to do with the re-routing choice THEY made. As mentioned, LOTS of people are in this same situation. I'm not ready to lose EQMs as this will be a tight year for me for trying to maintain 1K.

How hard will it be to collect those miles on VN Airlines? My VN ticket stubs do have my UA FF# on them. Hoping this is not a battle for the EQMs!! My reservation information gives no indication whatsoever of miles or EQMs that would be earned on this re-routing. Hoping that doesn't mean ZERO.
