US doesn't need to do a status match because it sells status. Giving away the same things it sells is bargaining against itself.

As to the various Clubs, not sure that on short-haul non-stop the better approach isn't to simply get to the airport in time to head straight for the gate and keep the cash to buy a nice meal.
