The LAX lot is rather far from the terminals and some of the terminals have horrid cell reception because of a combination of old construction and thousands of O&D passengers all on their cell phones.

I never use it. I either park and pay the $3 for an hour (free if you are in and out in 15 minutes) or I confirm that the person I'm picking up is on the curb.

Is this a new chain copying McDonalds?

It allows me to go and meet the person at the gate, which is easier than trying to guess when they will arrive (given most of my pick ups are 'out of country-ers' they don't immediately have a working cell phone or don't want to pay obscene roaming charges!) Plus I think it's nice to greet someone at the gate (albeit I skip the flowers) when the arrive, or when they are returning (why yes, I am a big softie at heart!)
I miss the old days of actually going to the gate.
