It's entirely possible that OP was moved for a FAM, a person with disabilities or to acommodate a family group. Unless the CSR at the Club accomplished those transactions, the Club CSR would not ordinarily know why.

But, as a general principle, the idea that if for some reason one loses an F seat, however that happens, that you go back to your original steerage seat is simply not feasible.

All of this stuff occurs close in to departure. Imagine moving Mr. F to his original steerage seat. That necessitates moving the person who snagged that seat and finding him another seat and so on.

Yes, it's unfair to the F guy that he winds up worse off than he was at the beginning of the process, but there's only so much fiddling to be done and the goal of getting people who actually need to get somewhere to the place they want to be.
