Based on these two statements it would appear that you were never actually upgraded.
Why? Even if F is sold out there is still an upgrade list. It's just that probably nobody will clear it. If someone is on the UG list and then removed prior to takeoff (and hasn't boarded yet) something happened to take that person off the UG list.
