Keep in mind that the US "sequester" is starting to have an impact on the time it takes to get through immigration (and possibly TSA/security).

After spending over an hour in line for Immigration in both Chicago and Washington DC over the past month I was talking to the Immigration official at Chicago about the delays and he said that they were longer than normal as all overtime had been canceled, which had cut their staff numbers by about 10-15%.

Immigration at LAX is always variable depending on who lands in front of you, but add in a 10-15% reduction of staff and that part could take well over an hour by itself.

2 hours 15 mins is definitely doable, and as an elite who knows what I'm doing I'd almost certainly book it myself - but as a non-elite (which can add significant time to the security line) who isn't familiar with the airport it's definitely at least a bit of a risk...

As others have said, AA will get her to her destination, and if she was flying to a major airport then I'd say take the risk, but going to a smaller airport with infrequent flights makes it a harder decision.
