I'm pretty laid back, but this would piss me off to no end. I would hammer DL on every social media stream possible. I don't expect upgrades, I appreciate them when they happen. I'm happy with my aisle, and really happy when I can get a EC or exit row. But screw up (via things like this or equip changes) and make me lose my aisle seat and jam me in a middle or window, and I get pissed.

I feel your pain, and I'd pound them until you get the measure of compensation you feel entitled to.
