Spot on. This is exactly how it was explained to me when I asked about it recently. Lot's of cable spaghetti reduces vissibillity on the xray to the point it results in re-screening or digging through a bag manually, which slows down the whole process (Not only at AMS!). And according to the (senior) security guy who was so kind to explain, the cable spaghetti has increased considerably over the past years, which had resulted in much more re-screenings. By asking to take out the cables up front they aim to
increase efficiencey and make the average process faster. It all makes perfectly sense to me. ^
