Taca/Aivianca Lifemiles has some good "Buy miles cheap" and fly on * alliance options, but booking with them is a PITA. I too am rethinking if I should be accumulating more * alliance miles on UA, as UA has a great online booking engine, reasonable availability across * Alliance, OW redemptions etc.
