Exclamation BofA Mastercard breach

I logged on to BofA online banking today and noticed that my Quantum MC account was missing. I called the number on the back of the card. The automated system told me my balance and then stated that this account was closed. WTH? When I got through to an agent to ask why my account was closed she said (from a script, I's sure) that she understood my concern but that the account was closed due to security concerns. When I asked for more information I was told that Mastercard notified BofA of a serious breach and that ALL BofA Mastercard accounts were closed last night.

She explained that my account would show in online banking in the morning with a new account number but that new cards were not going to be issued until May 15th. Huh? I told her I did not need to use the card and that I would destroy it. No need as I was told the card could be used until reissued next month. Seems strange to me. I have had cards reissued because of security concerns but have never been able to use the old card.

On another note, this card has remained unchanged since BofA bought MBNA. Last month I got notification that World Points for this card would go away and be replaced by some type of BofA Rewards. I suppose it is too much to ask that BofA upgrade these cards to World Elite at some time. BofA has no World Elite card. Suppose it will never happen though.
