Also the term "points" in OP's post conflates the 3 distinct types of points - Redeemable Points, Tier Qualifying Points, and Companion Pass Qualifying Points. One can easily (CC spend, for example) earn the 1st and 3rd types without actually flying. I continue to accumulate "points" on WN once I've reached a certain status, but, generally aim for the redeemable variety then.

If you go to the trouble of doing a VX status match, just hope that they are in business long enough to use it. Gotta wonder how long Branson et al are willing to bleed red ink at this level.
