I received a call from the F&B manager today, I am guessing the couple of times I mentioned the breakfast issue clicked with someone for follow up. Interestingly, the other issues were on her radar as well in detail I didn't really share with the hotel (but did share above) and so I assume my anonymity is no more here ;-) and somebody who monitors FT was smart enough to de-anonymize me.
Anyway, it was a nice call and showed genuine concern. I was given a credit for our breakfast entrée for the first day when we did eat in the hotel. She also said they "are evaluating the new policy."
I also got a credit back for the resort fee, which I think is beyond what I would have asked for. I have to admit that I am puzzled by resort fees and am not sure what the right answer is. But if all of the things are in fact Plat benefits anyway, then I think SPG corp should do a better job of stepping in and making a suggestion for the propertuies or just tell us that we will be Platinum "minus" at those properties which decide to treat us this way, and we can react accordingly. I guess the other point I would make about a $22 resort fee at a property that has a $135 rate is that I am not sure there is anything about the property or the included services that justifies a service fee that is over 16% of the room rate.
No time to discuss upgrades on the call, but I went back through the thread and did see a few other comments that confirm my impression that Jr suite is the upgrade you are likely to get here. It's not bad by any means, but still probably not the letter of the SPG policy either.
Lastly, nothing to do with the hotel, but I did find the area to be still in a downturn and kind of depressing. Walking through the little village there was probably 60% vacancy in the shops and when we went into the real estate office we saw tons of listings (as if things had just been built). The quintessential moment though was when my wife and I spied the real estate poster inside the office that said "Lake Las Vegas Resort... we're on the rebound." That's a bit optimistic from the looks of things, there are lots of abandoned half bulldozed lots and dead golf courses. Also, when I made reference to "real food" above I meant that other than the main restaurant at the Westin (which had decent sushi), the eating establishments in the area leave lots to be desired in terms of food and service. A shame given how top notch both of these can be just 35 minutes away.
