Even though I live here, I rent from Hertz at LAX rather frequently for a variety of reasons.
It's easy enough to fill up close to LAX, so don't buy the prepaid fuel option. If you're coming from east of the airport, there are also a ton of gas stations on Century Blvd. From the north, there are also a Chevron and Mobil at the I-10/La Cienega intersection. If you drive carefully, you can make it to the Hertz lot showing a full tank. In a Camaro, I'd make that VERY carefully.
Enjoy your trip!
Don't prepay for gas at Hertz....ever. There are more then enough gas stations, I find the G&M (?) to be the cheapest.
One thing to add, since you are going on an extended trip, look over the car extensively for damage and ensure it is documented prior to leaving the Hertz lot. Get an agent to sign it and/or take pictures/videos. It's always best to play it safe and avoid that headach when you return.
