Ah, yes, I guess it must be some sort of supply and demand reason as you suggested. It's very frustrating! I am using flightcentre UK and flightcentre Australia. The flights are for later this year (September - November).

I agree that the prices result from supply and demand. But the pricing differences are probably magnified by the dates you're looking at. Sep-Nov is going to see more [cost-conscious] folks flying north to south. So the flights will have higher yields and can therefore lower prices.
