This sounds like an issue with your debit card. Maybe an identity theft problem? Many years ago a friend of mine had to go to a branch with ID, SS card, debit card to deal with an identity theft issue. But this was in the late 1990's before most banking was online.

+1 This doesn't appear to be them closing you down. Possible fraud prevention- maybe your account was compromised or had a login from a bad IP address and they want to confirm everything is legitimate.
