I also got the QC15's about a month ago. If I play music, there are great. But if there are just in noise-cancelling mode, even though it lowers the noise of the plan engine, I am a bit disappointment with other noise: I can clear hear people talking, hear any announcement that are made on the plane, etc... Is my headset not working properly or that's how they should work?
Completely off topic, but that's how they should work. The way that active noise cancelling works is by utilizing exterior microphones to detect noise frequencies, then by broadcasting an exact inverse frequency through the headphones, effectively cancelling the exterior noise.

Sadly, due to the time to detect the noises and broadcast the inverse frequency, it can't work well at all with "random" frequencies (people talking, babies crying, etc.). Any continuous frequencies (like mechanical noise from airplanes and trains) can be cancelled pretty effectively though.
