1st, please check if your AMEX membership rewards transfer to asiamiles at 1:1... (you need 220,000 asiamiles)
CX does give waitlist preference to asiamiles member, but i think its marginally better (or not even visible) compared to Avios/AA. the only difference is you cannot waitlist with Avios/AA. but sometimes CX Asiamiles does not auto-clear so you could steal the seat before they fix up the waitlist with Avios/AA.
Usually award seats inventory do open up close to the flight date so you might be able to change flights closer on to the ones you prefer (again, free on CX and please check on Avios/AA... but since it cost more on CX as you said, YMMV) but having 3 seats on the same flight on F is rare. However, if you're already at the airport early and they see seats flying open, they would be able to do something (also, based of fare rules, so ticketing on CX does give you some advantage here)
