We just drove up to Vancouver this past weekend so my other half could get their Iris scan (and for amazing dim sum at Fisherman's Terrace in Richmond, just 10 mins from the airport). On the way up, the Canadian inspector was sitting back in his chair, didn't even bother looking at the two Nexus cards I was showing him and just waved us through. On the way back, the inspector asked me what I did for a living (?), then asked me other half for their Taiwanese passport or green card. We declared our Taiwanese pickled olives with salted plum powder, and luckily the Asian inspector knew exactly what they were and let us bring them back.
The Iris scan is done by the receptionist at the Nexus office, so you don't even need to go inside - they have the iris camera right at the outside desk.
