I like the OP story. I'd actually rather them ask, as my title is Dr. but that doesn't make it onto the manifest most of the time. I'd rather be called by my title (yep, I'm that guy) than Mr. because I've earned it. If they ask, it saves them the embarrassment of me correcting them.
That's my title as well (and I earned it as well
), but I actively discourage people from using it when they try. I don't let my title define me, or my interactions. But we all have different needs
