DL is really the only reasonable carrier into those airports. Fortunately i'm not captive to DL based in NYC but it's definitely a lot easier to fly into CHA, BHM, etc rather than renting a car and driving 2hrs w/o traffic.
They all have US (and soon AA) with often similar frequencies to CLT.
