Fortunately not everyone is stuck up and insisting on formality. I am perfectly OK with first name addressing. I will routine do this with my doctor as well, for example.
Since there is a wide range of tastes in this, it is best that they ask and not assume that people are either friendly and informal, or the opposite. I've had several FAs ask me how best to address me. I like this.

Basically, yes. People whine when the FAs are not friendly. Now we have people whining (not the OP so much) when they're friendly. Just can't win
