Surprised to see that handshake is seen as too much by some of us.
Every time I flew AA J (it has been more than 1 year since I did that) I was offered a handshake somewhere at the end of the flight (just before landing).
Is it no longer a policy to do so?
It was a bit unnatural at that time but that was more because of the moment they offered the handshake than the act itself. It would be more natural to shake hands the moment you board the plane and are greeted walking in with your luggage going to your seat or when you're walking out.
After all this is what we all do when entering offices, strangers houses, ...
Off course, this is my personal opinion.
