Upgrade Waitlist Advice

Hi everyone,

So I went ahead and booked R class tickets and have requested upgrades:

20 May JFK-HKG CX831
22 May HKG-DXB CX745
25 May DXB-HKG CX738
26 May HKG-LAX CX884

I have the HKG-DXB sectors confirmed since I rang CX up and I've been given a deadline of the end of the month (already been extended by 20 days) to wait for the two long haul sector upgrades to clear. I have been told that the HKG-DXB-HKG must be issued at the end of the month, regardless of the status of the long haul sectors. Of course as it stands, the whole itinerary as a whole falls under Zone F, basically giving me a 'free' upgrade on HKG-DXB-HKG in terms of distance travelled. But upon issuing the HKG-DXB sector upgrades, it would mean I'd have to pay a lot more if the long haul sector upgrades clear before I travel.

So my question is: should I just decline the upgrade at the end of the month if the long haul sectors go through? The two HKG-DXB flights are both redeyes but I'm unsure whether it's worth 22,500 miles to upgrade. And if I do decline it, what would happen with the HKG-DXB upgrades if I eventually got the long haul upgrades; assuming that the HKG-DXB flights are as empty as they are now? And if I decline them, does that mean they're lost for good or if I can simply re-waitlist myself at some point before the flight if I wanted?

Thanks for any advice!
