I frequently stay in midtown on leisure trips. It's hugely convenient for going all over, including getting to/from the airports and easy access to Grand Central and Port Authority if you needed to venture out of town. I'm usually west of 5th Ave, so walking distance to Times Sq, theatre district etc.
