Pod39 Hotel which as the name suggests is built around a small room or pod concept so good thing small rooms don't scare you off.
Some of my family stayed at the Pod on 51st street and REALLY liked it. +1 for this chain.
I am a single woman who lives in the Financial District and while it is definitely a subway ride from midtown it is VERY quiet and everything is super accessible by train with every main line stopping down here (usually express trains, too!) - and all located within a few blocks of each other due to the shape of the island. I live near the "Club Quarters" on Wall Street and am very pleased with how accessible all of Manhattan is, how safe the area is, and how quiet it is. If you plan on visiting on a weekend hotels down here can be QUITE affordable as well ($150-$175/night) - which is not the case with the rest of Manhattan.
