I think they've got the balance about right, especially on long haul. It's rare I fly long flights and see empty seats - especially in J. The observation about bums on seats doesn't attest to anything other than efficient use of yield management. The average yield is the key to success: passenger load factor means little. Airlines with full planes go bust
My comment on supply was more directed at a way to combat your assumed drop in demand following introduction of the mooted regulation. Capacity includes aircraft size and seat configuration as well as frequency.
